Damodar, GVM’s College champs

PANJIM: Shree Damodar College, Margao won the men title 3-0 while GVM’s College, Ponda came out winners in women section 2-1, in the inter-collegiate badminton championship 2016-17 organised by Goa University, at SAG indoor stadium, Campal-Panaji, recently.

PANJIM: Shree Damodar College, Margao won the men title 3-0 while GVM’s College, Ponda came out winners in women section 2-1, in the inter-collegiate badminton championship 2016-17 organised by Goa University, at SAG indoor stadium, Campal-Panaji, recently.
Earlier in the tournament, Damodar College defeated Goa College of Engineering, Farmagudi in the mens finals.
In the first singles Tejan Fallary of Damodar defeated Mainak Chakraborty of GEC 21-9, 21-7 while in the second singles Sanath Kamat  defeated Pranav Silimkhan  22-20, 17- 21, 22-20.
In the first doubles Tejan Fallary and Sanath Kamat defeated Siddhanta Salunked and Mainak Chakraborty 21-11and 21-8 to win the tie 3-0
In the women final GVM Ponda won against Shree Damodar, Margao, 2-1.
In the first single Malati Dhani of GVM’s lost to Pranjal Chimulkar of Damodar by 9-21, 6-21, while in the second singles Anushka Kuvelkar of GVM defeated Deepika Vasudeva of Damodar 21-9, 21-5. 
In the deciding doubles match Anushka Kuvelkar and Malati Dani combined well to defeat Pranjal Chimulkar and Samina Jiva 21-8, 21-5.
Prof. P.M. Bhende, Principal of GVM College, Ponda was the chief guest for the presentation ceremony and presented the medals and trophies to the finalist.
 A total number of 37 teams participated in mens championship whereas 29 teams participated in the women championship.
