VAGATOR: Friends XI Vaddem knocked out host Vagator PYSC, 5-4 via tiebreaker, to move ahead in the 18th Vagator Soccer cup, at Vagator Parish Youth ground, Ozran beach, on Saturday.
Both the sides were locked in a goalless draw at the end of regulation time.
In a well fought encounter it was Vaddem who had the first look at the rival goal when in the 25th minute Edberg’s 25-yard curling freekick was paired away by the diving Vagator custodian Soma Korgaonkar.
For Vagator, Jesmon Carvalho sent a lovely through pass to Rama Parsenkar inside the danger zone however the striker failed to aim goalwards.
Crossing over, the teams got back into attacking mode where Saprem Divkar’s long range effort was kept away by Friends custodian Suraj Ghadi.
In the ensuing tiebreaker Alfex d’Souza, Devandra Khautankar, Denzil Sequeira, Edberg Sequeira and Stephen d’Souza scored for Vaddem while Rohan Kambli, Vinayak Mulgaonkar, Jesmon Carvalho and Nitish Salgaocar shot on target for Vagator.
Earlier, CDJ Ribandar scored a hard fought win over Parish Youth Nuvem 3-1 to advance ahead.
In a corner kick Neves Noronha sent the ball towards Jerose Oliveira who nodded the ball home, 1-0.
