CUNCOLIM: Damodar Higher Secondary School, Guddi-Paroda downed Cuncolim United Higher Secondary School 3-0 to win the Zone IV Higher Secondary School boys championship, organised by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, at Government Village School ground, Cuncolim, recently.
Damodar HSS dominated the match from the word go and shot into the lead in the very fourth minute when Alviton Oliveira beat the Cuncolim goalkeeper with a neat placement. Damodar HSS had more ball possession and their midfielders kept their forwards busy. Alviton Oliveira doubled the lead in the 10th minute when he beat the Cuncolim goalkeeper with a powerful attempt. At half time the score was 2-0.
In the second half, Cuncolim United HSS came out with renewed ideas and tried some long range shots but the Damodar HSS goalkeeper was equal to the task. Alviton Oliveira made the issue safe in the 40th minute when he beat the advancing goalkeeper to score his hat-trick.
Ramlal Vernekar, Director of Sports, Cuncolim United College of Arts and Commerce was the chief guest and gave away the certificate to the winning team in the presence of Motilal Gaonkar, TSO. Quepem, Prakash Velip, TSO, Canacona and other dignitaries.
The winners and runners-up will now represent Zone IV at the inter-zone on October 16, at Astroturf ground, Fatorda.
