MARGAO: A four-goal blitz including hat-trick by striker Darryl Costa helped Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club maul Macasana Welfare Club 9-0 in the Group D Salcete Zone GFA Third Division League at DYSA ground, Curtorim on Tuesday.
Areal led 1-0 at the break. They could not score initially due to poor marksmanship by their forwards.
Areal went into the lead in the 21st minute when Darryl punished the rival goalkeeper with neat finish.
After the break, it was one-way traffic for Areal as they demolish the rival defence with sporadic raids. Darryl doubled the lead in the 62nd minute. Then it was the turn of Francis Baretto who mesmerised the crowds as he made 3-0 in the 68th minute.
Darryl, who was fulcrum in his team’s attacks, completed his hat-trick in the 79th minute. Francis struck second time in the 81st minute to register his brace and three minutes later he registered his hat-trick.
Earlier, Monty Alvares added his name on the scorer’s list in the 79th minute. Darryl scored his fourth goal in the 85th minute.
Princeston Dias drove the last nail into the rival coffin late in the second half.
In the Group A match, at Paroda ground, Immaculate Conception Sports Club thrashed Tilamol United Sports Club 4-1. The highlight of the day was a brilliant brace by Conrad Pereira. Benny Olveira and Captain Carvalho were the other goal getters while Royal Fernandes reduced the margin for the losers.
In the Group E, at Nagoa ground, Nuvem Sports Club defeated Verna Sports Club 2-1.
In the Group F, at Camurlim ground, a late strike by Macklon Gonsalves enabled Raitura Sports Club to over come Our Lady of Gloria Sports Club 1-0.
On Monday, Mandopa Sporting Club blanked Navelim Sporting Club 2-0 in the Group C at Rosary ground, Navelim. All the goals came in the first half.
Mandopa held the upper hand in both the sessions as they launched barrage of attacks and Navelim Sporting Club goalkeeper had a torrid time in thwarting the rival attacks. Mandopa broke the deadlock in the 17h minute when Felciano Carvalho bulge the net.
The early goal boosted the morale of Mandopa players as they mounted tremendous pressure on the rival citadel and in the 22nd minute Mauvin Gomes scored the insurance goal to give his team 2-0 cushion.
After the break, Mandopa continued to dictate terms and fired couple of pot shots but could increase the tally.
In the Group F match at Camurlim ground, Social Cultural Club of Loutolim hammered Arlem Youth Association 3-0. Loutolim team led 1-0 at the breather.
Loutolim started the game on the whirlwind fashion and took the lead in the 12th minute when striker Sweden Fernandes outpaced his markers and punted the ball to the far corner of the net.
Changing over, Loutolim were more dominant and fired couple of sorties. Steven Rodrigues, who was in thick of action pumped in two goals in the 55th and 75th minutes to register his brace. Arlem Youth Association were left dazed and were struggling to contain the rival rampaging forwards.
