MARGAO: Sporting Club of Davorlim prevailed over Verna Sports Club 4-1 to sail into the quarter-finals of all-Goa Varca Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament, organized by Varca Sports Club, at Varca ground, Sunday.
There was no score at full time. Both the teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and had equal number of scoring chances. However, goalkeepers were rock solid and effected superlative saves to keep their slate clean.
In the ensuing penalty shoot out, Maclon Colaco, Paxton Gomes, Bruno Costa and Venson Figureido were on target for Sporting Club of Davorlim while only Basil Rego was successful for Verna Sports Club. Maclon, who played a stellar role for Sporting Club was adjudged man-of-the-match.
