Lobo vows to give windsurfing govt recognition

PANJIM: Calangute Constituency MLA Michael Lobo vowed to work for the development and give recognition for the windsurfing sports in the State.
He was speaking at the concluding ceremony of the Annual Windsurfing Regatta organised by the Goa Beach Sports Academy, at Dona Paulo, on Sunday.
“Windsurfing as a sport has unfortunately not recognised by the government even though we have the natural resources and talent,” said Lobo.
“With boost from the government, we can win gold medals for the country. I will forward the proposal to the Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar and Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and ask for an allocation of place. I want to make this sport one of the best sports in Goa,” Lobo further informed.
Dayne Coelho, Myron, Meghan Fernandes and Abhimanyu Sengupta clinched the titles in the Techno Class, Race Board (Jrs), Novice Girls and Novice Boys respectively.
The Regatta saw the Coelho siblings steal the honours after three days of surfing. Katya and Kaya Coelho complimented the efforts of their brother Dayne, by securing the second place in the Techno Class and the Novice Girls section respectively.
Abhimanyu Sengupta from Kolkata who was third until the penultimate day fought back by winning two of his final races and move on to win the Boys Novice title.
Myron Gomes got off with a solid start with a first league lead over the rest which was led by Aaron in the second and followed by Emanuel in the third in the Raceboard Juniors section.
Later, Katya Coelho proposed the vote of thanks on behalf of her father Donald Coelho. Three time champion Donald Coelho was the man behind this annual regatta. Parsekar, Charlie and Judy Correia were also present at the event.
The results: Techno Class: Dayne (1), Katya (2), Chadwick (3). Raceboard (Jrs): Myron (1), Aaron (2), Emmanuel Cabral (3). Novice Girls: Meghan Fernandes (1), Kaya Coelho (2), Nihara Pandey (3). Novice Boys: Abhimanyu Sengupta (1), Aaron Furtado (2), Lindsay (3).
