PONDA: Officials of Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) and Health department along with the sarpanch of Borim, jointly conducted an inspection of the nullah which is reportedly polluted as sewage water is released into it by some houses at Borim.
Borim Sarpanch Sanjay Gavde said the residents complained that many occupants of the houses have not constructed soak pits and Borim Panchayat will issue notices to those polluting the nullah soon after receiving the report from the GSPCB.
“The nullah is 3 kms long and at Navdurga, people immerse Ganesh idols in it during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Since it is a sacred place, the nullah should be maintained clean by the residents,” said Gavde.
Some residents residing near Top Cola Borim said during monsoon, the waste gathered in the nullah flows into the fields, creating problems to the farmers.
Others present during the inspection of the nullah included Panch Parimal Samant, WRD assistant engineer Ankush Ganokar and joint engineer Ganesh Shirodkar, Manoj Kudalkar of environment section, lab assistant of the GSPCB Nishita Lolienkar, Milan Naik of Shiroda Health department, representative of Borim Navudurga temple committee Vishwas Prabudessai and members of Borim Development Trust.
