DBO down Odxel SC

PANJIM: Don Bosco Oratory Sports & Cultural Youth Club registered a solitary goal win over Odxel Sports Club in the Goa Football Association Third Division League, at Agassaim ground, on Sunday.

Don Bosco enjoyed better ball possession in the first half. However, despite playing better football they were reduced to 10 man when their centre-back Sergio Da Silva got sent off following his second yellow in the 40th minute. 

There was no score at the break. In the second half, Don Bosco took time to settle in the game. Though playing with an extra man Odxel struggled to penetrate through the Don Bosco’s defence. Soon in the 48th minute, Don Bosco scored when Odxel keeper fumbled while collecting DBO’s Nikhil’s lobbed ball which was nodded in by Johnson Kandulna.DBO had a chance to double the lead when Leon gave a good pass to Johnson, however, he shot it straight at the keeper. DBO came close to scoring again, when Leon made a good run with the ball down the left wing with a cut-back pass to Johnson but he missed to score. In the dying minutes of the game, DBO keeper, Chetan made a crucial goal-line save to rescue the three points for his team.

Meanwhile, in another match at Taleigao ground, Merces Club edged past Portais Sporting Club 2-1. Merces scored through Jayendra Kunkolkar and Vinay Fatarpekar. Poratis’ Rocky Fernandes pulled a goal back for his side.
