PANJIM: Dempo Juniors defeated Ghumteshwar Warriors by 76 runs to emerge as champs in the Sanguem T20 all-Goa leather ball cricket tournament organized by Sanguem Cricketers at Sanguem Cricket Academy ground, on Saturday.
On winning the toss and electing to bat, Dempo Juniors scored 202 for the loss of 5 wickets. Robin D’souza scored unbeaten 49 runs. In reply, Ghumteshwar Warriors inning were bundled out by Dempo Junior’s bowlers for 136 runs with 13 balls to spare. Tushar Sawant and Vinay Chowdhary of Dempo Juniors did most of the damage of Ghumteshwar Warriors as they scalped 4 and 3 wickets respectively.
The winners were awarded Rs. 60,000 and a trophy while Ghumteshwar Warriors had to be content with Rs. 30,000 and a trophy. Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral was the chief guest and handed over the prizes in the presence of Suryadutta Naik , Chairperson of Sanguem Municipal Council, Sanjay Parwar – Sarpanch of Uguem Panchayat, Supraj Naik Tari – President, Tushar Karmalkar – Secretary & Saiesh Malwankar – Treasurer of Sanguem Cricketers.

Harish Naik 2-22, Vijesh Prabhudesai 1-42, Dheeraj Yadav 1-18) beat Ghumteshwar Warriors, 136 all out in 17.5 overs (Sanjay Dabholkar 27, Vishwajeet Fadte 24, Vikas Desai 20, Sarfaraj Nawaz 11 runs. Tushar Sawant 4-24, Vinay Chowdhary 3-24, Nikhil Naik 2-6).
The individual prizes are as follows Man of the final & highest sixes – Robin D’souza (Dempo Jrs), Man of the tournament – Nikhil Naik (Dempo Jrs), best batsman – Tunish Sawkar (Dempo Jrs), Best bowler – Vinay Chowdhary (Dempo Jrs).
