MAPUSA: Dempo SC trounced Vasco SC by 3-0 margin to enter the finals of the Goa Police Football Cup organised by Goa Police Sports Cell in association with GFA, held at Duler stadium, here, on Friday.
Dempo colts dictated terms and scored through Khaigunhao Haokip (2) and Asmon Viegas.
Golden Eagles playing with their development squad, with their seniors playing in the I League-Third Division League, yet played at a fast space and after holding the upper hand scored two quick goals in the added time of the first session.
Khaigunhao Haokip, collecting a through pass from Beckham Dias rounded off the advancing Vasco custodian Nabakumar Ghosh scored, 1-0. Minutes later Asmon Viegas dribbling past a host of Vasco players drove a power packed 25-yard right footer which crashed into the far corner of the goal, 2-0.
On resumption of play, in the 55th minute Bhuvanesh Shendre sent a square pass to overlapping Khaigunhao whose stiff grounder went just past the goal post.
Vasco did have their chances but Samuel D’Souza and Francisco Fernandes strikes were saved by Dempo custodian Mansa Dubey.
While the Port towners failed to score, Dempo pumped in their third goal in the 78th minute where Khaigunhao headed the ball into the back of the nylons off Aaron Bareto cross, 3-0.
In the 85th minute substitute Aryan Poll almost scored the fourth goal but saw his stiff grounder rebound of the far goal post.
Dempo’s Khaigunhao received the man-of-the-match award from the hands of Raul Parab – police inspector of Porvorim, in the presence of Shivram Vaigankar – DYSP and Raia Naik – PI sports.
Dempo will now take on Cortalim Villagers in the finals slated on November 21, at Duler stadium, at 5 pm.
