MARGAO: Dempo Sports Club and Salgaocar Football Club played out a goalless draw in the AIFF U-15 Youth League match, at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Monday.
The draw leaves both the teams with four points, sending Dempo SC to top of the table on superior goal difference.
Salgaocar FC started the match on the front foot totally dominating Dempo SC in the opening quarter with Ribhav and Flan Gomes creating constant threats to the opponent.
At the other end, Dempo’s Nikil Gurang and Kidron Fernandes had to defend major part of the play to deny the Salgaocar FC lads much deserved lead in the first half.
Crossing ends, Dempo SC made some tactical changes that saw The Golden Eagles take control of the match.
Dempo SC missed a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 50th minute when Malcolm Gonsalves headed Aaron Alvares’ cross straight to the keeper.
Moments later, The Green’s Frezer Gomes’ shot missed the target by a whisker when the former was played a long through ball by Aswin Fernandes from his own half, breaking Dempo SC’s off-side trap.
Dempo SC keeper Aston D’Souza was the saviour for the team as he denied Aaron Barreto from a free-kick. Boris D’Mello made a daunting run upfront but lacked support from his Dempo SC teammates.
In final stages of the match, the teams missed clear opportunities to break the deadlock.
First, Dempo SC’s Priston Carvalho’s close ranger was saved by Salgaocar FC keeper Antonio Dylan D’Silva and at the other end, Dempo SC’s Lesley Rebello came up with a goalline clearance off a Salgaocar free-kick.
