RAIA: Holders Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, edged past a fighting Peddem Boom SC, Anjuna, to win by a lone, second half goal and move into the quarterfinals of the II Cavelossim Villagers UK Cup, organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim and played at the Fr Druston and Wellington ground, Cavelossim.
Don Bosco Oratory took the lead much against the run of play, when Mario Noronha took a clever corner kick and passed the ball to unmarked Vilton D’Souza on the edge of the penalty area, whose first time shot beat Soma Korgaonkar under Peddem Boom bar to lead 1-0.
Peddem Boom fought back valiantly with Prathik, Faheez and Kunal tormenting the Don Bosco defence time and again.
Peddem almost equalized in the last minute of the match when Marvoti Horizan’s header beat Don Bosco keeper Karol Soares but captain Alfred Noronha effected a goal line save to take Don Bosco into the quarterfinals.
