PANJIM: Amey Barad scored the only goal of the match as Don Bosco College, Panjim edged past city rivals Dhempe College, Mira Mar 1-0 to move into the quarter-finals of AC Fernandes memorial inter-collegiate football tournament, organized by Herald Group in association with GOA, at Santa Cruz ground, Saturday. There was no score at half time.
The teams started on a cautious with the ball restricted in the midfield. However, Don Bosco created a good opening through in the 15th minute through Sydney’s solo run, only to be denied by Dhempe keeper Jerson Periera.
At the other end, Dhempe’s Rinson Perriera was a threat with his fierce long rangers.
The second half started in the same fashion. Don Bosco captain Amey Barad finally broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute when he cleverly chipped over the keeper Jerson, 1-0.
Don Bosco were growing with confidence and tried hard to inflate their lead but hard working Leonardo D’Souza’s three scorching efforts missed the target narrowly.
