Double crowns for Aashrun, Manjushri and Anjana

PANJIM: Aashrun Gautam, Manjushri Raut and Anjana Kumari bagged double crowns each at the SAG State Badminton Ranking tournament, organized by Goa Badminton Association (GBA) in collaboration with the Sports Authority of Goa, at Indoor Stadium, Campal, here, on Tuesday.

Aashrun carried his fine form into the final displaying great composure as he displaced the top seeds to win the junior singles titles.
In the U-17 singles, he beat Dhruv Angle 21-12, 21-15 while he ended the unbeaten run of Tejan Fallary in the U-19 boys final, winning 21-17, 21-14. 
Manjushri Raut was in cruise control against Yasmin Sayed in the Girl’s U-15 singles which she won 21-11, 21-8. 
In the U-19 Girl’s singles, Manjushri was given a tough fight by Emilia Silveira before prevailing to a hard fought 15-21, 21-17, 21-19 win. 
Anjana Kumari was in prime nick as she won the U-17 Girl’s and Women’s singles titles.
In the U-17, she beat Manjushri Raut 21-19, 21-19 while she edged out Anar Singbal in the Women’s final, winning 21-19, 15-21, 21-12 in a match of long rallies.
Parteek Mahajan retained his Men’s singles title with a straight sets win over Floyd Araujo, though the second seed sparkled in the second set making the top seed to work extra hard.
In the Men’s doubles, Tejan Fallary and Dhruv Angle came out guns blazing against Floyd Araujo and Darwin Barretto in an exciting match which they won 21-15, 21-18. 
In the other final matches of the day, Soham Khandeparkar beat Tejas Tendulkar 17-21, 21-12, 21-8 to win the U-13 Boy’s singles.
The U-13 Girl’s singles was won by Lydia Barretto, who registered a comfortable 21-11, 21-17 win over Arshia Gautam while Mehul Jirage beat Curt Coutinho 21-11, 21-17 to win the Boy’s U-15 singles.
Sachi Dhavalikar, Rhea Mallya, Swapnil Mahadeshwar, Aaron Rodrigues and Gaurav Surti emerged promising players of the tournament. 
Mathew Samuels, Secretary of Sports, Government of Goa;  Richard De Souza, President of Goa Badminton Association; Narahar Thakur, GBA Secretary and Luciano Soares, former State player and official were present.
The tournament was conducted by NIS coaches Roy Athaide and Vinayak Kamat.
Sarfraz Sheikh, treasurer of GBA welcomed while Sandeep Heble, GBA Vice-President proposed the vote of thanks.
