MAPUSA: Dunes Sports Club, Morjim displayed their supremacy in the second session to ground a spirited Colmorod Ratwaddo Sports Club, Navelim 8-3 in a GFA’s U-20 Second Division football league match at Duler Stadium, here, Sunday. The teams were locked 2-2 at half time.
An own-goal by Standly D’Costa saw Dunes take an early lead but the visitors responded strongly. Delroy Pereira equalized and then Anton Gomes put them ahead before the half hour mark but Sandesh Sawant leveled terms before the lemon break. In the second session, Dunes were a transformed unit and scored at their own will. Shashank Naik and Shashank Ashwekar scored a brace each while Harshad Naik and substitute Jeramia Kuyel got their names of the score sheet. Anton reduced the margin for the away side with his brace in the dying minutes.
Dunes started brightly and kept their rivals under continuous pressure in the initial stages. CRSC defender Standly couldn’t handle the onslaught which resulted in the opener. Harshad sent in a dangerous cross from the right flank to Sandesh, who headed goalwards and Standly, in an attempt to clear the threat, shot into his own goal.
However, the visitors responded within eight minutes as Dunes keeper Lincoln Fernandes’ miss-kick fell straight to Delroy, who did not waste time and unleashed a delightful volley from 30-yards out.
Subsequently, Anton made it 2-1 in favour of CRSC as the striker showed good alertness and curled past out of position Lincoln. CRSC were content with their performance in the first session but Sandesh restored parity before the break with a rasping effort.
Changing over, CRSC could not match their opponents for pace. Shashank Ashwekar sounded the alarm at the hour mark when his hot-blooded shot hit the crossbar and six minutes later, his teammate Shashank Naik nodded in the all-important third goal that broke the rival backbone.
Minutes later, Shashank Ashwekar converted a penalty while Shashank Naik got his second in the 78th minute, 5-2. CRSC were helpless and could only watch then onwards. Right-winger Harshad then scored the sixth off an assist from Sandesh.
However, CRSC had a reason to smile in the 85th minute when Anton reduced the margin with a deft placement but Dunes showed no mercy and scored another two goals through substitute Jeramia Kuyel’s solo effort, followed by Shashank Aswekar’s strike.
