MAPUSA: Dunes Sports Club, Mandrem, cruised into the finals of the Saligao Super Soccer Cup with an emphatic 3-0 win over ABC Arambol in the first semi-final, organized by Saligao United, at Vagator football ground.
The match began evenly, both sides displaying firm control in midfield. Arambol earned an early chance in the 4th minute when Pratik’s free kick went straight into the Dunes goalkeeper’s gloves. Dunes responded in the 22nd minute as Sanmesh Raul’s pinpoint cross from the left found Arjun, who narrowly failed to convert. The first half ended goalless after a tight midfield contest.
Momentum swung Mandrem’s way after the break. A defensive lapse by Arambol initially went unpunished, but in the 35th minute, Dunes broke through when Myson Britto’s free kick was misjudged by goalkeeper Dietmar, putting his side 1-0 up.
Nine minutes later, Dunes doubled their lead when Dietmar’s rebound fell to Sanmesh Raul, who calmly slotted home to make it 2-0. The contest effectively ended in the 50th minute when Arambol’s Sergius picked up a second yellow card, reducing his side to ten men. The foul resulted in a penalty, which Britto confidently converted to complete his brace and secure a 3-0 win.
Myson Britto was adjudged man-of-the-match and received the award from Paul D’Souza, president of ABC Arambol.
