FAG to participate in IFA’s World Cup

PANJIM: The Futsal Association of Goa (FAG) will be participating in International Futsal Alliance (IFA) Men’s World Cup 2019 to be held in China, Jiangmen.
“FAG will represent India in the tournament as FAG affiliation to IFA has granted India a position at the tournament,” said FAG President Benjamin Silva.
The futsal World Cup will take place in Jiangmen from August 21 to 25 wherein the semi-finals will be played on August 24 and final will be held on August 25.
“The International Futsal Alliance (IFA) is a partnership of a number of countries, formed to offer high quality international tournaments across the World.  There is a limit of one member per country.  However it is expected that all members will both offer tournaments, and support tournaments offered by other members,” explained Benjamin.
All tournaments are played under FIFA rules and the majority of members are affiliated to and supportive of FIFA’s development and management of futsal across the World.  We wish to be ancillary in FIFA’s efforts to develop futsal.
“It’s a privilege to represent India and we will ensure to send our best team at this competition. This competition will have teams across the world which will give our young players an opportunity to gain international experience and exposure,” said Benjamin.
The FAG will hold selection trials for the same on May 4 and 5 at Peddem Sports Complex, Mapusa from 8.30 a.m..
“We have  just three months to prepare for this tournament and will give our best to provide some of the best training to the team before they head to China.” added Benjamin.
“National players also will join the trials and the team shall be selected purely on merit basis by the technical staff.” he concluded.
