CURCHOREM: Fatima Boys Dicarpale got the better of host Guardian Angel Boys Curchorem 6-5 via sudden death to grab top honours in the all-Goa 11-a-side football tournament, organised on the occasion of Guardian Angel feast by Guardian Angel Boys, Curchorem, at Figueiredo ground, Curchorem on Sunday.
The teams attacked from the word go and kept the crowd on their toes. There was no score at the lemon break.
Changing end, Dicarpale managed to open the account through their striker Mack Borges but their joy was short-lived when Jovel Martins of Guardian Angel succeeded to neutralise their lead soon after.
The scores remained 1-1 till the end of the regulation time.
Fatima Boys, Dicarpale were richer by Rs.75,000 plus trophy while Guardian Angel Boys had to be content with Rs.55,000 and a trophy.
Following were the individual prize winners: Mack Borges (First scorer of the final), Avin, Dicarpale (Best goalkeeper), William, Curchorem (Best defender), Jovel Martins,Curchorem (Best Midfielder), Agnelo Colaco, Curchorem (Best striker), Shawn Fernandes, Curchorem (Young promising player) and Alan, Dicarpale (Player of tournament).
South Goa District Congress President and President of Salcete Football Club, Joe Dias was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of guest of honour, Social Worker and Congress Leader Amit Patkar, Assistant Parish Priest of Guardian Angel Church, Fr Jovier Barreto, Fr Jerry Vaz, Headmaster of Guardian Angel High School, Congress Block President Pushkal Sawant, Ex-President of Guardian Angel Sports Club, John D’Costa, host club President Denzil Fernandes and other dignitaries.
