RAIA: Fatorda Veterans got the better of Nuvem Veterans6-5 vie tie-breaker in the final to emerge champions in the 6th All-Goa inter-village veteran football tournament organised by Nuvem Veterans at the Nuvem Church ground, recently.
In the first half, Fatorda Veterans scored the first goal through Francisco Colaco. Thereafter, Seby and Steven missed golden opportunities to net in.
In the second half, Nuvem Veterans equalised through the boots of Marcus Carvalho.
Remy, Joerose and Marcus tried to increase the lead but failed to net in.
At the end of regulation time, both the teams settled for a 1-1 draw.
In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, for Fatorda Veterans, Francisco Colaco, Vincent Barbosa, Steven Fernandes, John Araujo and Sandeep were on target, while Nuvem Veterans netted through Marcus Carvalho, Agnelo Colaco, Remy Colaco and Joerose Oliveirà.
The winners took home Rs 40,000 and a trophy.
Chief guest former Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa gave away prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of guest of honour Nuvem Church parish priest Fr Valencio Fernandes, special invitees Nuvem Church vigar Fr Vital Miranda, Nuvem Zilla Parishad member Anceicao Rodrigues, Nuvem Sarpanch Frida D’Sa, Conceicao Colaco, Conceicao D’Costa, Cajetan Barreto, Antoneta Martins, Manuel Borges, Saloma D’Costa, panch members and other officials.
