FC Goa ease past Guardian Angel

MAPUSA: FC Goa had an easy outing as they trounced Guardian Angel SC by 4-1 margin in the Goa Professional League played at Duler stadium here on Friday.

FC opened their account in the 10th minute of play through Phrangki Buam. On crossing over in the 53rd-minute Joel Baretto equalised for Angels.

However, FC Goa scored three late goals from Malsawmtlunga (73’), Muhammed Nemil (85’) and Leewan Castanha (90+5’) to collect three full points.

Angels coach Riston Rodrigues fielded Chandan Oraw, Fedrich Fernandes, Jesloy Moniz, Brivon Dias, Milroy Clement, James Fernandes, Tanmoy Mondal and keeper Savio Dias, while FCG gaffer Deggie Cardozo started with Deeshank Kunkalikar, Rayan Menezes, Velroy Fernandes and Malsawmtlunga.

Angels started brightly and had the first attempt at the rival goal when their skipper Gilbert Oliveira sent a through pass to Jesloy who tried to find his forward Saivish Singh with a low cross in the box but FCG keeper Hrithik Tiwari brought a smart save.

However, in the 10th minute Gaurs caught the Angels defence napping, when Malsawmtlunga sent a deadly cross to Phrangki Buam who intelligently guided the ball into the Angel’s goal to give his side the lead.

Pepped up by the goal FCG would have increased their lead in the 22nd minute when Nemil’s free kick landed at the feet of Jovial Dias, but before the latter could fire at the goal Angels defender Fulganco Cardozo came with a timely clearance.

Another glorious chance went in vain for FCG just before the breather as Deeshank sent a cross to Rayan at the far post, who in return set up Lesly Rebello just in front of the goal, but the skipper could not keep his header on target from close.

Angels were a transformed unit on crossing over where they leveled terms in the 53rd minute.

A pinpoint cross by U20 Milroy was perfectly headed in by substitute midfielder Joel Baretto from inside the box to make it 1-1.

 Curchorem side almost took the lead when substitute midfielder Peter Carvalho sent a long pass to Joel in the box but before the latter could create any damage FCG keeper Hrithik left his charge to collect the ball.

As the match progressed Young Gaurs came with serious of raids and netted three goals in the last quarter of the match.

Lalremruata HP and Nemil combined well at the top of the box with one-two-one passing and sent a through pass to Malsawmtlunga whose powerful shot from inside the box made it 2-1 for his side.

In the 85th minute, Young Gaurs further extended their lead through Nemil. Substitute U20 striker Mevan Dias nicely cut past an opponent defender and sent a short pass to Nemil at the top of the box, whose curling left-footer kissed Angels keeper gloves and entered the goal, 3-1.

Angel’s had a chance to reduce the margin, but FCG custodian Hrithik brought a superb save to deny Joel from scoring.

While Angel’s failed to score FC Goa goal netted in their fourth goal.

A curling corner by Deeshank was brilliantly headed by U20 Mevan at the goal but Angel’s keeper Savio brought a brilliant save which was later cleared by their defender James. However, the ball came in the pathway of FCG’s unmarked Leewan whose strike from inside the box crashed into the back of the net.

Mohammad Nemil of FC Goa received the man of the match award from the hands of Babli Mandrekar and Johncy Fernandes.

Churchill Brothers SC trounced Velsao SCC by 5-1 margin at Nagoa ground.
