Sporting Club of Davorlim scored a comfortable 3-1 win over Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim to enter the quarter-finals of 34th Cana Benaulim inter-village football tournament organised by Cana Benaulim Sporting Association at St John Baptist ground, Dando, Benaulim on Monday. Sporting Club of Davorlim were leading 2-0 at half time.
Sporting Club of Davorlim enjoyed the lion share of exchanges and tormented the rival defence with well orchestrated raids.
At the other end, Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim were a subdued lot as they failed to combine as a cohesive unit and were struggling to cope with the pace of rampaging Davorlim forwards.
Sporting Club of Davorlim went into the lead in the 5th minute when Rosebud Gomes punished Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim goalkeeper with a deft placement off a through pass from Venson Figueiredo from the left flank.
Spurred by the early success, Sporting Club of Davorlim attacked the Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim goal umpteen. William Niasso doubled the lead in the 25th minute when he bulged the net after picking up a pass from Agnelo Fernandes.
Sporting Club of Davorlim swarmed all over the rival territory in the second half and were rewarded when Striker Rosbud Gomes received a stray ball from the rival defence and unleashed a stiff grounder which beat the rival goalkeeper hands down.
After taking the 3-0 lead, Sporting Club of Davorlim slackened their pace and allowed their rivals to struck rhythm and striker Raju Cardozo beat the rival goalkeeper.
Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim had yet one more chance but Ellie Fernandes blasted wide from handshaking distance.
