CAVELOSSIM: Fr Agnelo YSC, Paroda, earned a hard fought victory over St Anthony’s SC, Assolda 2-0 to march into the semi-finals of the Cavelossim Villagers UK Cup organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim, at Fr Druston and Wellington ground, Cavelossim.
It was Paroda who were on the attack right from the word go with Benzu Clemente’s shot from the box grazing the left goal post and rolling out of play with Assolda keeper Johnson Fernandes beaten.
In the 18th minute, Paroda initiated a move on the left flank with a through pass by Fedrich Fernandes to Velroy Carvalho who shot into the right corner of Assolda goal to give Paroda the lead.
In the next minute, Shelton Fernandes could have increased the lead but fired his grounder wide off the right post with only the goalkeeper to beat.
Assolda almost restored parity when a powerful try by Valentino was blocked by Paroda defender Zylan Oliveira right on the goal-line.
In the second half, Assolda manager Custodio Fernandes brought on Vitorino Fernandes and it changed the complexion of the game totally with Assolda attacking the Paroda citadel time and again. Brivon and Welson initiated attacks on both flanks but Paroda defenders Velroy and Dolson werehard nuts to crack and desperately defended their citadel.
At the fag end of the match a counter move by Joel Fernandes saw him rolling the ball to Velroy Carvalho who fired a 15-yard shot that entered the left top corner of the Paroda net to complete his brace. and take Paroda into the semi-finals where they will clash with Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda.
