PONDA: Friends XI, Vaddem defeated St Rock Youth Club, Majorda 2-1 to enter the semi-finalsof the 27th St Anne Festival All-Goa inter-village football tournament organized by Ponda Footballers in association with SAG and Quadros Motors, at Animal Husbandry ground, Curti-Ponda, on Thursday.
The first move was created by Friends XI in the very third minute with Denzil Sequeira moving from the right flank and sending a across but there was no player to tap inside the goal.
St Rock took the lead in the 19th minute off a brilliant finish from the right by Snell Rodrigues after an assist by Suraj.
Just inside the second half, in the 38th minute, Friends XI equalized through Melwyn’s header.
In the 45th minute, Suraj Naik’s free-kick was fisted away by the Vaddem keeper and soon Suraj’s blistering shot sailed over the crossbar.
At the other end, Amar Kinlekar finished off a move by Edberg to give a 2-1 lead for Vaddem.
The first semi-final will be held on July 22 between Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda and Raitura SC, Rachol.
