PORVORIM, NOV 17
“I am thrilled to witness the Ranji League matches being held here at Indoor Cricket Stadium and indeed the GCA needs to be complemented on achieving the task thereby providing plenty of opportunities to cricket lovers of Goa,” stated Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat at the elevation of the ground to Ranji status and inauguration of 4-day Ranji Trophy League match ‘A’ between Goa and Jharkhand on Wednesday.
“All hurdles including forest department clearance, that were in the path of the construction of the cricket stadium at Tivim have been cleared and hence the GCA can now go ahead with the said project,” added Kamat. He expressed hope that the GCA’s dream to build a cricket stadium of international standards would be fulfilled during his tenure as CM.
GCA president, Dayanand Narvekar went on to say, “The Goa Cricket Association is waiting for the Tivim Panchayat to give the green signal. The stadium will be constructed in two phases. In the first phase, the entire low lying land will be filled with mud so as to raise the level of ground upto three feet, only then the work of ground and pitch will begin. They have prepared the estimate for the said work to about Rs 40 lakh and have submitted the same to the Public Works Department.”
Narvekar further mentioned that, “the Tivim stadium will have facilities like ample parking space, swimming pool and club house. If the GCA gets clearance from Tivim Panchayat soon, then the GCA will start the preliminary work immediately and will ensure that the foundation stone for the same is laid by February 2011 and the stadium is ready in two years time. In case the Tivim Panchayat starts creating any problems to issue NOC the government should intervene and direct the panchayat to issue clearance to GCA promptly for the construction of the said stadium.”
The CM t then exhibited his batting and bowling skills.
