GCA starts Tivim stadia work

The work of the International cricket stadium with a 45,000 seating capacity has begun at Tivim.
The Goa Cricket Association (GCA) cut around 125 trees located on 90,000 square meters of land and the site office has been opened.
While briefing the press at Porvorim, President of Goa Cricket Association, Dayanand Narvekar stated that as per the undertaking given in the Affidivit by GCA to the High Court, the work will be done in stages. The GCA has completed the work of cutting of trees in two days and there was no opposition whatsoever from anybody which means that the people are interested in the upcoming stadium.
“The work of excavation of about 11,000 cubic meters of land upto 1 ft deep will start from December 15. No permission is required from the Town and Country Planning Department if the digging is done for less than 1 meter. A letter to this effect has been issued by TCP to GCA. The GCA wants to make the stadium ready within two years,” said Narvekar.
Narvekar further mentioned that the stadium will be environmental friendly. The solar energy equipments will be installed to take care of the requirement of electricity for the stadium and the drainage will be underground. The grass required for the ground will be imported from Mysore and the special mud required for the pitch will be brought from South India.
“The entire work of the ground which has been estimated to the tune of Rs 5 crore, will be outsourced to the respective agencies. The practice pitches will be made outside the cricket stadium.”
“A 50 room guest house for the players will also be constructed. As per the undertaking given to the High Court, no trees outside the area of the stadium will be cut unless clearance from the Central government is received,” claimed Narvekar.
In regard to GPL matches, Narvekar stated that the GCA has received a good response from the six franchises and the turnover of the entire GPL would be more than Rs 1.5 crore. The GCA is expecting a good crowd of around 10-15,000 people for GPL matches for nine days. There will be tickets of Rs 100 per day for two matches and the seating arrangement will be done in two sheds which will be constructed of M S steel.
“In the pavilion too, a seating arrangement for 200 people will be made for which tickets will cost Rs 500 per day which would include cost of snack also. Beer will also be sold in the indoor cricket stadium. Vijaya Bank has sponsored the prize money of Rs 5 lakh,” concluded Narvekar.
