GCQ rally to hold Chowgule College

CURTORIM: Government College, Quepem (GCQ) thrice came from behind to hold Parvati Chowgule College to a 3-3 draw in the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports College Football, at Curtorim ground, on Wednesday.

The match began with both the teams looking well matched with no clear advantage to any team.
However, Chowgule broke the deadlock in the 29th minute when Garry Fernandes scored to put his side ahead.
Government College was quick to respond as they managed to equalise in the 33rd minute when Rinjoy Fernandes found some space to slot the ball into the back of the net.
Despite the Quepem College having the momentum after the equaliser, Chowgule College scored against the run of play in the 42nd minute through Raymond Morowale.
However, the Quepem lads managed to equalise just before the half-time through Assli Carvalho.
Crossing ends, the Quepem lads came back strongly and almost took the lead when their 20-yard free-kick missed the target by whiskers.
At the other end, Chowgule once again took the lead when defender Srijith scored through a well worked set piece routine.
Chowgule hoped to capitalize on their lead but failed to create clear opportunities for their strikers.
There was plenty of time left for the Quepem boys to level terms for the third time in the evening. Macion Colaco scored the equaliser in the 77th minute capitalising on rival’s defensive lapse.
Both teams registered their first points of the tournament with Chowgule having played a game less. However, the draw was not suitable for both the sides as they trail the group F leaders Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim, who lead the group with 6 points.
