PANJIM: Following the indecent behaviour of a St Sebastian Union Club player in the Second Division League match played at Ambelim on Thursday, the Goa Football Association acted promptly and took immediate action against the player on Friday.
According to a GFA official, “The St Sebastian Union Club player has been immediately suspended following his actions on an official. We acted immediately after we received the reports from the match officials,”
On Thursday, soon after the final whistle, Joel Fernandes of St Sebastian Union Club, who earlier received straight red following his push on the same official, came straight to the lines man Milagres Fernandes and punched him with fists and blows.
Since the local organizer Ozen Silva was recording and capturing the whole episode on his handset at the end of the match, St Sebastian Union fans grabbed the phone and squeezed the organizers hand, thus injuring the lad.
“Thursday’s incident has been worst and we at GFA wouldn’t tolerate such indiscipline. The player has been suspended as of now and might even face a life ban from football including the inter-village games upon our further investigations,” added the official.
GFA’s decision came within 24 hours as they are also looking to punish the club (St Sebastian UC) for the actions of their fans –who assaulted the local organiser.
“Discipline is paramount” added the official.
It has been learnt that GFA might also suspend two Goa Professional League players and their manager for their actions during a Pro League game. Another player from Second Division Club from Bardez might also be punished.
“We have instructed the fourth official to maintain and look after the discipline on the field and instructed them certain guidelines to follow during the games,” he added stating that the team’s shall be responsible for maintaining and fielding the players during the game.
