PANJIM: The Goa Football Association condoled the death of Vivian Furtado who represented Goa in the Nationals in 1964 (Guwahati) and 1965 (Quilon).
Stockily built, he came into prominence when he played for Vasco Sports Club from 1964-67. It was widely believed that in 1966 when Vasco lost to Mohun Bagan in the Rovers Cup final, had Vivian had not been injured the outcome of the final would have been different.
GFA President Elvis Gomes said that from information available, “Vivian who hailed from Sarzora represented St Joseph High School, Arpora in football, hockey, volleyball and athletics. He was picked up by Vasco Sports Club as chief football goal keeper from Pune University.”
He breathed his last on Jan 11th 2018 in the US and survived by wife Bella, son Belvin and daughter Vesna.
John Dias of Sarzora Club (Joncia) in his condolence message said, “Vivian had brought glory to the village of Sarzora through his heroic efforts under the bar for Goa and Vasco.”
