PANJIM: The Goa Football Association (GFA) termed reports in a section of the media about Churchill Bros winning the U-16 league as misleading, the GFA on Mondayclarified that the league is still open.
GFA officials claimed that the Club would be issued a Show Cause Notice as such an act of making false claims in the media by a member club tantamounts to violation of the disciplinary code.
It was stated that the club will have to explain why such false news has been planted and who are responsible. The GFA will take appropriate action which may include sanctions including docking of points and fine.
GFA President Elvis Gomes informed that he has been briefed about the development but said that since the office was closed for Christmas, he would look into the matter on Tuesday.
“I don’t know why they could not wait. Such a thing rarely happens. Anyway, we will hear them before taking any action,” Gomes said.
Meanwhile Churchill Brothers clarified that they have emerged South Goa champions and the manager of the youth team said that it was inadvertently reported as GFA U-16 league champions.
