Salvador Silveira’s fifth audio CD ‘Sorga Sounsarachi Ranni (Vailankanni)’ has a collection of 15 songs, most of them revolving around Blessed Virgin Mary.
The title song ‘Sorga Sounsarachi Ranni’ rendered by Lawry Travasso speaks about the creation of Mary without sin. He makes a mention of thousands of devotees flocking to Vailankanni to seek Mother Mary’s intercession and the favours received by childless couples, the disabled and the sick.He also speaks about the image found in most Christian houses, with miracles like stars in Catholicism. He concludes by seeking blessing on all, health for the sick and salvation for the departed souls.
The next song, a duet ‘GharachiChavi’ by Aniceto/Bushka, is an interesting conversation between husband and wife, with the latter accusing her mother-in-law on petty issues. If the in-laws live in harmony, there will be light in the family, the husband states. Until one becomes a mother, the value of a mother will always be underestimated, he concludes.
Songs ‘Palkechem Vizmit’ a solo by Marcus Vaz, and ‘Angoun’ by Peter/Domnic/Valancy have common themes. The former relates a true story of a childless couple who proceeded to Madras and the latter speaks about humiliation faced by a couple due to no children in the family. But staunch faith makes everything possible in the families, with blessings of a child. The Christian faithful are urged to make a trip to Vailankanni and be filled with blessings of Our Lady of Vailankanni.
Songs ‘Kuneadani Meuno’ by Salvador/Pascoal and ‘Pixem’ by Salvador/Denzilia focus on indifferences that prevail in the families and the dire consequences which the women, who are the victims, have to face at the end.
‘Devachem Utor’, a solo by Benny de Aldona, throws light on the spiritual life prevalent during the yesteryears and today. He says there was deep devotion to prayer earlier, especially among girls and women. Today children do not know the basic catechism, he complains, and urges the listener to teach the kids the doctrine of the Church as nobody knows when the end of the world will come.
Songs ‘Teg Put’ by Denzilia and ‘Goenchi Suropai’ by Aniceto/Succor focus on Goa and Goans. In both the songs, the beauty of Goa is highlighted along with the generosity of Goans. In the latter, mention is made of St Francis Xavier, St Joseph Vaz and VenAgnelo D’Souza, seeking their blessings.
In ‘Avoicho Kusvo’ by Pascoal de Calangute, the love of a mother while giving birth to her child and her countless sacrifices till her last breath are highlighted. After Mother Mary, a mother is blessed in a family, he notes.
The following duet, ‘Mogachem Licence’ by Jr Reagan/Bushka, is a love song with thoughts during school days and the hardships encountered in the family. They pledge to remain true till the end through the sacrament of marriage.
In songs ‘Mati ani Dull’ by Alex de Calangute and ‘SorginchemSukh’ by Salvador/Pascoal/Peter provide food for the soul. The former reminds about caring for the soul and futile efforts made to accumulate wealth on earth. The latter speaks about a tragedy in the life of a family and the joy that unfolds with the birth of a new child.
In the song ‘Dhorom’ by Benny de Aldona/Succor, an appeal is made to remain true to your religion. Mention is made of various sects in Christianity and the practice followed by the Protestants.
The concluding song ‘Orresaum’ by Salvador/Bushka and chorus is a befitting hymn in honour of Mother Mary. Salvador has roped in noted professional singers of the Konkani stage and their vociferous voices make the album rich in content. Neville Pereira has assisted by providing good music to all the songs in the album.
