Story: Maxon (Braz de Parra) is all out to preserve the comunidade land for posterity, but businessman Lawrence (Tony) steps in and decides to sell everything to outsider Salim (Lawry M). What will be the end result?
Review:
Through daily labour in the fields, Maxon supports himself and his ageing mother (Jessie Dias). Maxon has a friend, Sisco (Vilton), whom he loves like a brother and his mother treats Sisco as her son but Sisco has his eyes the comunidade land where Maxon resides and is ready to go to any extent in order to make money. When Sisco notes that Sanya (Famila), daughter of businessman Ronaldo (Teotonio D’Costa), is in love with Maxon, he decides to take advantage and make his dreams come true through her.
But despite all threats and blackmailing, will Sanya bow down to Sisco’s demands and get the documents signed by Maxon? How does Maxon react to Sanya’s sincerity and honesty? How does Lawrence’s plan fail and who triumphs as the winner?
Kuwait-based Braz de Parra’s tiatr ‘Ami Khuxal’ has a simple story to relate, but it has its relevance in Goa’s present scenario. Issues related to sale of comunidade land to non-Goans, migration of Goans to UK, greed for money and wealth, false promises made find prominence in the drama.
Except for some minor hiccups here and there, the artistes have delivered well. Jessie stands out in her compassionate role of a mother. Braz looks apt in his simpleton character. Vilton portrays his negative character confidently. Teotonio, Tony, Famila, Lawry and Dominic extend good support.
In the comic acts, Mangalore-based Aranha jams up with Mathew, Sheikh Amir, Lino and Kuwait-based comedian Querobina and there are some good laughter pills for the audience.
In the category of songs, Succor de Santa Cruz, Tony, Rosario de Benaulim, Nery, Nivette, Querobina, Saby de Divar and Delenne entertain with their solos. Parra boys Dominic, Greg and Anceto present two chorals with gusto. A duet by Nivette and Dominic is a treat to the ears. Instead of several solos, inclusion of duo and quartet would have enriched the tiatr.
