Fatorda win veterans football
PANJIM: Fatorda Veterans clinched the 4th all Goa veterans football tournament, organised by Fatorda Veterans defeating Bardez Veterans 2-1 at Don Bosco ground, Fatorda, recently.
Francis Andrade put his team ahead with a neat placement past Bardez keeper Jude. Fatorda scored their second goal through Niclav Borges. Receiving a pass from Uday, Niclav dribbled past couple of defenders and scored past Jude. In the dying minutes Bardez reduced the margin through Augustine.
Chief guest Fatorda MLA and former Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sardessai gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up.
Following were the awards: Man-of-the-final: Francis Andrade (Fatorda); Best goalkeeper: Romeo Pereira (Fatorda); Best midfielder: Bibian (Bardez); Best defender: Niclav Borges (Fatorda).
FC Navelim ease past JP Boys Borda
DAVORLIM: FC Navelim defeated JP Boys Borda 3-1 to move into the next round of the Davorlim Cup at Davorlim ground on Thursday. FC Navelim opened the scoring through Pires in the 6th minute. Twenty minutes later, Pires doubled the account for Navelim. In the 45th minute, Anthony pulled a goal back for JP Boys Borda. In the 60th minute, Pires completed his treble scoring the third for FC Navelim.
Varca set up final date with Quepem
QUEPEM: Varca Veterans got the better of Fatorda Veterans 6-5 via the tie-breaker to move into the final of the Quepem Veterans Cup, played at Condy ground, Quepem, on Thursday.
Jerson netted the first goal for Fatorda in the 10th minute. However, the joy was short-lived as Raju equalised for Varca in the next minute. In the second half, Eddy made it 2-1 for Varca but Levino levelled terms for Fatorda in the 56th minute. The teams were tied 2-2 at the end of the regulation time.
In the tie-breaker, Hendry, Eddy, Charles and Raju netted for Varca while Levino, Atul and Agnelo got on the score sheet for Fatorda. Varca Veterans will meet Quepem Veterans in the final on February 14.
Zinc FA down FC Goa in friendly match
PANJIM: Zinc Football Academy team defeated FC Goa 3-0 in a friendly match between the Under-18 teams held at Don Bosco College ground, Fatorda, recently.
Zinc FA sneaked one in midway through the first half after an excellent run by winger Jangminthang Haokip from the left flank who then passed it to striker Babar for an easy one-on-one finish. With some aggressive pressing, Zinc FA doubled their lead after Babar’s long shot was deflected off the FC Goa goalkeeper but straight to Jangminthang who simply tapped the ball home. Zinc scored the third courtesy of an excellent through ball by midfielder Sandeep Marandi to send Subhash Damor sprinting from the right flank. Subhash cut back and fancied his chance from outside the box and he did manage to beat the goalkeeper with a thunderous strike.
Tiatrists beat Musicians in exhibition match
PANJIM: Tiatrists defeated Musicians via tie-breaker in a Konkani Tiatrists 5-a-side football exhibition match played at Turf on Top, at Maina-Batim, recently. The teams were held to a 7-7 draw in the regulation time. Franky Oliveiro scored a hat-trick for tiatrists while Nitish, Anthony Chingu, Cosme and Saby de Divar scored a goal each. For Musicians, Swinton netted a treble while Maxwell scored a brace. Jonathan and Johny B Gud also got on the score sheet with a goal apiece. In the tie-breaker, Tiatrists converted through Franky Oliveiro, Nitesh and Cosme. Agnelo Lobo saved three crucial penalties to help the Tiatrists win the encounter.
