MARGAO: Hosts Goa swamped Daman and Diu 9-1 in the West Zone Coca Cola Mir Iqbal Hussian Trophy under-15 Sub Junior National football championship, at Holy Trinity ground, Benaulim, on Tuesday.
The highlight of the day was a brilliant hat-trick by captain Borris D’Mello and Aroon Alvares.
Although Goa dominated the game it was Daman and Diu that rocked the rival citadel in the very fourth minute when Ozmello Colima bulge the nylons.
Undeterred by the early goal, Goa did not wait for long to fetch the equalizer and in the sixth minute captain Borris neutralized the lead when he punished the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish.
The equalizer enliven the host team as they tormented the rival weak defence with sporadic raids, Borris, who was fulcrum in his team attacks increased the tally when he unleashed a volley which crashed into the net in the eighth minute.
Ryan Vaz added his name on the scorer lists in the 11th minute. Thereafter it was a one way traffic as the host team swarmed all over the rival territory.
In the next minute, Aroon Alvares increased the tally when he punished the rival goalkeeper with a deft placement.
Super sub Arron Baretto who scored a hat-trick in the previous match added his name on the scorer list in the 40th minute.
Arron Alvares struck for the second time when he beat the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish in the 41st minute.
The second half did not bring any relief to the sagging morale of the rival team as they attacked from both the flanks. Jovin D’Mello made it 7-1 in the 60th minute. Arron Alvares registered his hat-trick in the 80th minute and in the 89th minute captain Borris D’Mello registered his second hat-trick of the tournament.
In another match, Maharashtra trounced Madhya Pradesh 4-1. Mahrashtra dominated both the sessions. Clevert Miller opened the scoring in the 24th minute. Geston D’Silva doubled the lead in the 33rd minute while Deepak scored the consolation goal for MP. After change of ends, Kamran Ansari inflated the tally in the 46th minute while Geston D’Silva struck his brace in the 73rd minute.
