CALANGUTE: Goa Diocesan Priests scored a hard fought 3-2 victory over Parra Parish Youth in the Vocation Day football match, at Parra church ground, Parra, on Sunday.
Goa Diocesan Priests began the match on an attacking note and forged ahead in the seventh minute through Fr Jayson, who latched on to a rebound after the Parra keeper could not make a successful clearence.
Trailing by a goal, Parra got their act together and equalized through Succoro in the 20th minute.
However, Goa Diocesan Priests regained the lead through Fr Valentino in the 22nd with a rasping volley.
Changing over, Fr Valentino made it 3-1 in the 35th minute with a fine finish.
Brendon Lobo reduced the margin in the 55th minute for Parra, beating keeper Fr Benjamin.
Parra tried their best to draw level but were denied goals by Fr Benjamin.
Dean of Mapusa Deanery, Fr Tomas Lobo was the chief guest and gave away the trophies to the winning team in the presence of Fr Alex D’Souza, Fr Edward, Fr Willy and other dignitaries.
Sarpanch of Village Panchayat Parra, Delilah Lobo was also present.
Earlier, the alter servers of Parra welcomed the priests and others with a welcome song while the Parish Youth members sang hymns to conclude the programme.
