PANJIM: Goa Olympic Association (GOA) will promote the National Games across Goa through various initiatives that have been proposed during next six months.
A six-member committee has been formed to prepare, plan and execute programmes leading to National Games 2020.
Sandeep Heble (Chairman) along with 5 members namely Farrel Furtado, Siddharth Satardekar, Chetan Kavlekar, Rajendra Godinho and Jayesh Naik have been nominated by the General Body and approval for same granted by GOA President Shripad Naik on March 9.
The committee will collaborate with various State level Sports Associations, the Sports Authority of Goa and other stake holders to promote and execute various events that have been recommended by the General Body.
There will be presentations of sports disciplines in various schools and colleges across Goa, Hockey, Taekwondo and Badminton being 3 of the shortlisted disciplines.
Other events proposed are “Inclusive Fest” for differently abled in association with Paralympics Association, Elocution and Quiz Competitions in association with various NGOs, Clinic & Workshops for P. E Teachers in association with Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, “Street & Graffiti Art” in association with Goa College of Fine Arts, and promotion of Games and Athletes on Internet and Social Networking Platforms.
Earlier at the GOA General Body held at Dr SPM Stadium, members unanimously lauded the efforts of its Secretary General Gurudatta Bhakta on his initiative taken to showcase a National Games Tableau at the Carnival Float Parades in Panjim and Mapusa.
Participants and State Associations who participated in the Parade also received unanimous appreciation. It was also decided to recommend to the Government to field athletes in all the 37 sports disciplines including those that have no State Level Association in place affiliated to the GOA.
