Goan FC down Churchill Bros

NAGOA: Goan Football Club registered a hard-fought 1-0 win over Churchill Brothers SC in the Goa Professional League match, played at the Nagoa Panchayat Ground, on Tuesday.
A goal in the 39th minute from Aaren D’Silva helped the Developmental Team to claim all three points.
Goan FC enjoyed the lion’s share of the possession in a game which saw Churchill getting only three shots on goal all coming from direct free-kicks.
After playing balanced  football for opening 30 minutes, Goan FC started to get into their own groove in the latter stages of the first forty-five.
Liston Colaco, Princeton Rebello, Hayden Fernandes and Kingslee Fernandes started to have a bigger say on the proceedings.
After constantly raiding the rival territory Goan FC finally broke the deadlock in the 39th minute when Liston did well to rob the ball from Nenad Novakovic before darting towards the goal. The winger-cum-forward kept his nerve in the final third as he ran past a defender before putting the ball on a plate for Aaren D’Silva to smack home.
The lanky forward duly obliged to give the young Gaurs the lead going into the break.
The second half had a similar pattern with both teams giving their all with Goan FC looking threatening particularly down the left with Liston and Saviour Gama – both of whom had a shot each on goal.
Whilst Churchill brought on the likes of Chesterpaul Lyngdoh into the side and pushed Novakovic up front, they failed to create anything worthy note in the final third.
