PANJIM: Virat Kohli, India’s cricket poster boy and batting sensation has been approached by the Goan franchisee to be the face of their ISL team.
Though the news of the 25-year-old Indian cricketer could not be officially confirmed, sources within the Dempo Sports Club administration confirmed that talks were underway.
Refusing to further elaborate, the source speaking on condition of anonymity, said that nothing could be said of now as to how the talks were progressing. The source request Herald to either contact one of the owners Srinivas Dempo, or Albert Colaco, secretary of Dempo Sports Club or Rahul Raichand, head of the franchisee’s marketing division.
Albert Colaco, who is in Mumbai, when contacted pointed that nothing has been confirmed and that the Goan franchisee is in touch with various celebrities as their brand ambassador. Colaco would not elaborate further.
Whilst Rahul Raichand bluntly refused to comment, stating a firm ‘no comment’.
It is reportedly learnt that Raichand has been in discussion with the representatives of Kohli over the last couple of weeks.
Srinivas Dempo was not reachable.
However, another source whole is dealing with the I-League division of Dempo Sports Club hinted that the deal with Virat Kohli’s agents had gone well and that the deal should go through.
While the deal hasn’t yet been penned, it is believed that the two parties have agreed to the terms with the agreement expected to be completed soon.
With almost every Indian Super League (ISL) side having a celebrity attached to it, the Goan franchisee owned by Srinivas Dempo, Dattaraj Salgaocar and Videocon, could be the latest to join the bandwagon.
Sachin Tendulkar (Kerala Blasters), Sourav Ganguly (Atletico de Kolkata), Ranbir Kapoor (Mumbai City FC), John Abraham (North East United FC) and Salman Khan (FC Pune City) are some of the A-Listers, who are part of the ISL.
