PANJIM:  Geno Pharmaceutical brand ambassador and candidate master Nitish Belurkar crossed another milestone in his budding career when he crossed the rating barrier of 2,000 in the recently published list of FIDE (World Chess Federation).
Nitish recently won a silver medal at the Commonwealth chess championship in under-14 category in Glasgow, Scotland.
The former under-9 World School Champion from Sharda Mandir School, Mira Mar followed his silver medal winning performance with another stupendous feat at the 5th Vaujany International Chess tournament in France.
Nitish defeated Di Nicolantonio Lucas of France (FIDE rating 2324), Adam Gyrogy Jr (FIDE rating 2143) of Hungary and IWM Renata Gazik of Poland (FIDE rating 2088).Thanks to this, in the Vaujany International tournament he gained a whopping 99 points.
Thus he went past the coveted 2000 ELO rating mark. Nitish now stands at 2022 as per the latest FIDE rating list.
Dronacharya awardee Raghunandan Gokhale who trains Nitish was happy with the progress. “Nitish is on the right track. He should be an IM (International Master) within the next two years if he maintains this tempo, opined the ace trainer”.
