AGENCIES, AHMEDABAD: Following their remarkable performances in the round three, Goa’s Niraj Saripalli and Ameya Audi went down fighting in the round four of the 55th National Challengers Chess Championship, to continue his rich form in the tournament, held at Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on Tuesday.
The cool and composed Niraj was overpowered by Akash PC Iyer in the fourth round, while Ameya Audi went down against Pranavananda V. Devesh Anand Naik and Sairaj Dilip Vernekar were also beaten by their respective opponents in the round 4.
Earlier in the round 3, Niraj who was paired against International Master Padmini Rout (2327 rating) showed no signs of nervousness as played out a vital draw.
Ameya fought his way back to beat Santanu Borpatra Gohain in the same round. Goa’s Sairaj opened his account with a vital win over Aaradhya Jain, while Devesh lost against Akshay Anand.
Niraj and Ameya moved to 2.5 points while Devesh and Sairaj stand with a point.
The tournament is organised by Gujarat State Chess Association under the auspices of All India Chess Federation.
