MAPUSA: Dempo Sports Club drubbed Sesa FA 3-0 in the Goa Professional League played at Sesa Football Academy ground, Sirsaim, on Thursday.
Golden Eagles went into the breather with Beevan D’Mello’s goal while Suraj Hadkonkar and Joaquim Abranches were on target after the change of end.
Sesa coach Charles Dias made two changes in his starting XI bringing in Shoib Akhtar and Vishnu Gosavi. Dempo’s coach Samir Naik also made three changes as he fielded Gauresh Naik, Joaquim and Fulganco Cardozo in the starting 11.
It was Sesa FA that had two chances to take the lead early in the match where Shajam P tested Dempo’s keeper Luis Barreto with a powerful left-footer strike which was punched over the crossbar by the Dempo keeper. Minutes later Kunal Salgaonkar’s attempt from outside the box missed the target narrowly.
While Sesa FA failed to find the net, at the other end, in the 20th minute, Golden Eagles broke the deadlock after Rajat Harijan sent in a cross to Ariston Costa, who headed the ball to Beevan who scored with a cool tap in, 1-0.
In the 60th minute, Sesa were once again unlucky not to level terms when Shajam 35-yard shot failed to find the target.
On crossing end, the Golden Eagles brought in Suraj from the bench and the tempo of the match accelerated.
In the 51st minute, Suraj scored from his 30-yard free-kick to make it 2-0.
As the match progressed, the Golden Eagles netted their third goal in the 67th minute, Beevan played a cut through pass towards Joaquim whose strike had no answer from Shajam to make it 3-0.
In the last quarter of the match Sesa outfit did try to come back with some attacks but the last line of Dempo defence failed to bulge under pressure.
