NAVELIM: Guardian Angel Sports Club scored a solitary goal win over Vasco Sports Club in the Goa Football Association Goa Professional League match played, at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Thursday.
Ashley Araujo scored the match-winner in the 82nd minute after playing a drab draw in the first session.
Vasco SC dominated the play in the first session with their new signing Penn Orji commanding the midfield with supplies and vital interceptions.
The former Kerala Blasters player stood as a pillar in Vasco SC’s midfield and made an immediate impression in his first appearance. However, the dominance couldn’t be converted into lead as the Port Towners missed the chances that came their way.
For Guardian Angel SC Sunny Fernandes came close to scoring but just couldn’t keep his composure in front of the rival goal. The teams were tied 0-0 at the break.
In the second half, it wasn’t a different story as Vasco SC continued with their attacking football. The strong Vasco SC just couldn’t get past equally brilliant Guardian Angel SC goalkeeper Ozen Silva as the former Sesa Academy players came with brilliant saves to keep his side in the game.
Ozen denied Beniston and Shubert on two occasions on one-on situation. Guardian Angel SC were lucky to sustain the pressure mounted by the determined Vasco SC. However, in the final 10 minutes of the game it was end to end affair as Guardian Angel SC who were unlucky to break the Vasco SC defence finally scored the lone goal of the match when Clinton Niasso played an aerial cross in the box which was brilliantly met by Ashely.
Guardian Angel SC kept the score line 1-0 till the final whistle.
