CHANDOR: Guirdolim Club edged past Velsao Sports and Cultural Club by a solitary goal to advance to the quarter-finals of the 14th All Goa Guirdolim Panchayat Cup played at Chandor Church ground.
Guirdolim started on a positive note and could have taken the lead in the 5th minute but their striker Leno DeSa fumbled when it mattered the most.
A couple more chances went a begging for Guirdolim in the first session and the match was tied without score at the breather.
Post resumption in the 44th minute Mario Fernandes floated a measured cross to Christopher Cardoso and the later headed the ball over the Velsao keeper who was caught off his goal-line.
Down by a goal, Velsao fought back and tried every trick to equalise but the Guirdolim defence led by veteran Benny Peixoto was a hard nut to crack.
At full time the match ended 1-0 in favour of Guirdolim who will now meet Tilamola United SC in the Quarter finals on 27th October.
