DICARPALE: Raia Sporting Club defeated Maina SC 2-0 to lift the 8th Our Lady of Fatima Cup, organised by Dicarpale SC, at Dicarpale ground, on Sunday.
In the 5th minute, Nelson Fernandes should have netted the first goal for Maina but the rival defender thwarted his move. Jameson Noronha’s long range missed the net of Raia in the 6th minute. Raia’s Melvin Gaunkar opened the score line in the 22nd minute which was doubled 41 minutes later Denny Fernandes.
Following were the individual prizes; Best goalkeeper: Leo Colaco of Raia SC and Best player of the tournament: Oilex Oliveira of Raia SC.
The winners were awarded Rs: 40, 000 while the runners-up pocketed Rs: 30,000 plus trophies. Govind Gaude, Minister for Art and Culture was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of Benjamin Silva Ex-MLA of Velim Constiuency, Fr John Gomes, parish priest of Dicarpale church and other dignitaries and club officials.
