Holy Spirit Institute District champs

PANJIM: Holy Spirit Institute, Margao beat Pope John XXIII, High School, Quepem 5-0 to emerge winners in the South District U-17 boy’s football tournament organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA), at the Astroturf football ground, Fatorda on Saturday.
They began the play on an impressive note as they dictated pace from the middle.
The Holy Spirit boys moved the ball from end-to-end and displayed great composure keeping possession of the ball for long spells.
In the first half, Holy Spirit team led 4-0 which saw a fine hat-trick by Aditya Salgaonkar and a goal by Robin Gomes. From the Quepem side, Hyson made attempts to penetrate the rival defence but the midfielders from Holy Spirit foiled their plan and completely dominated the first half proceedings.
Crossing over, the boys from Quepem found it hard to get into the rhythm of the Holy Spirit team who enjoyed the lion’s share of ball possession.
Richard Carvalho marshalled the Holy Spirit defence and gave no space for the rival team strikers.
Nathan Rodrigues scored the final goal of the match few minutes before the final whistle could blow.
They have now qualified for the U-17 boys football State final.
