PANJIM: Holy Spirit, Margao and Majorda won the 8th All-Goa altar servers’ football tournament, in the boys and girls category respectively, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, recently.
The tournament was organised by Vocation Commission for the Diocesan Clergy (VCDC) in association with John Paul II Foundation for Sports.
In keenly contested boys final, Holy Spirit altar boys, Margao defeated Arambol altar servers 1-0. Richard Carvalho scored the match-winner for Holy Spirit in the second half.
In the girls’ final, Majorda altar servers edged out Moira altar servers. Racheall Coelho shot past the goal line into the nets to give Majorda a 1-0 win.
Richard Carvalho and Racheall Coelho walked away with the best player; male and female category respectively.
The Rising Stars; a musical band comprising of Seminarians kept the crowd entertained throughout.
The Director of VCDC, Fr Derrick addressed the gathering and welcomed the guest for the evening. The chief guest for the final, Archbishop of Goa and Daman, Rev Filipe Neri Ferrao, along with the guest of honour Denzil Franco, FC Goa and Fr Tony Salema congratulated and gave away the prizes.
The special invitee, Minister for Housing Jayesh Salgoankar, made a short visit during the course of the match and encouraged the altar servers to give their best.
