Ilhas Veterans defeated Bardez Veterans 3-0 in the inaugural match of All-Goa Dempo Veterans soccer tournament organised by Goa Veterans Football Club at Don Bosco ground, here on Sunday. Ilhas led 1-0 at half time.
Ilhas dominated from start and frequently attacked the rival citadel. They came very close in surging ahead a couple of times but Bardez custodian Bharat Morje proved his mettle.
In the dying minutes, Frankie Mascarenhas scored the opening goal off a pass from Prakash Chari.
After the change of ends, Bardez went all out for the equaliser but were unable to get past Ilhas defenders Minguel Miranda and Daniel Noronha.
In the dying minutes, Ilhas scored two quick goals, first when Charles Lobo connected a beautiful pass from Paulo Almeida.
Later, Verisimo Rodrigues rounded off the tally of a wall pass from Francis Dias.
For Ilhas, defenders Daniel, Minguel, Salemao and Gopal played well while Mario Aguiar under the bar was unbeatable. Verisimo and Francis excelled in the midfield.
For Bardez, Fausto Lobo and Anthony D’Souza were able to frustrate the rivals with their neat passes.
