IM Audi finish joint first in Portugal chess

PANJIM: Indian International Master Audi Ameya put up a scintillating performance in the recently concluded 1st Cidade De Lagos Open 2023 in Portugal, to finish joint first along with GM Vitaliy Bernadskiy of Ukraine, GM Eltaj Safarli of Azerbaijan and IM Manueal Bosboom of Netherland but had to settle for the third place on tie-break. 

The four players scored an unbeaten 7/9. GM Vitaliy and GM Eltaj won the first and second place, while Ameya had to settle for the third place on tie-break, while IM Manueeal was place fourth, stated a press release.

Ameya had five wins and four draws, his notable performances were draws with GM Spraggett Kevin (2480) of Canada, GM Hoffmann Michael (2412) of Germany, IM Gusain Himal (2437) India and draw with the eventual champion GM Vitaliy (2546) in round four and wins against IM Alshameary Puente Ismael (2307) of Spain and FM Martins Bruno (2323) of Portugal.

The tournament featured participation of players from 20 countries.
