CUNCOLIM: KK Boys Santa Cruz defeated Mangalore Spikers to win the All-India invitational volleyball tournament held in memory of former volleyball player Xavier Dias organised by MB United Sports and Cultural Club, Murida – Cuncolim, recently.
Mangalore Spikers had won the opening set against KK Boys but the Santa Cruz team swung the match in their favour by winning the second set, the crowds decided to back the Goan team to the hilt. Sanjith Shetty, Shudhir Shetty and Praful were the better performers for Mangalore Spikers as they won the first set.
After losing the first set, KK Boys with former International players Sohan Kumar, S Mohit and Shubham defeated Mangalore Spikers to level the second set. Set three was once agian dominated by the KK Boys as Sohan Kumar and Shubham gave no chance to Mangalore Spikers to wrest the third set.
The fourth set saw explosive spikes from S Mohit and Shubham and wrapped up the match and won the title.
KK Boys Santa Cruz bagged Rs 1,00,000 plus trophy while Mangalore Spikers were awarded Rs 60,000.
