MARGAO: Pappu Dhawasker came up with an impressive show as Kulmaya Sports Club, Bicholim got the better of Navelim Spikers 25-16, 25-27, 32-30 and 26-24 to clinch the top spot in all-Goa floodlit volleyball tournament organized by Sada Junction Boys, Murida at Adiband-Murida court, Cuncolim, Sunday.

With talented players in their ranks, the Bicholim team put up a stunning show in the final. Navelim Spikers for their part showed a lot of grit and commitment during the game but they lacked the finishing abilities to threaten the opposition.
Under pressure, Navelim Spikers unleashed their fighting qualities to clinch the second set 27-25. Arron Pereira and Bharat Gawas led their resurgence fetching them points at crucial moments.
The third set was a closely fought affair. Pappu, Sachin and Saish Dhawasker were the star performers for Kulmaya while Manohar, Bharat Gawas, Milind Bondre pocketed important points for Navelim Spikers with Gawas excelling in smashes while Bondre was clever in drop shots. Kulmaya eventually clinched the set 32-30.
The last set was clinched Kulmaya 26-24.
Kulmaya were richer by Rs 33,333 while Goa Police had to settle for Rs 22,222.

Individual prizes — Best player of the tournament: Arron Pereira (Navelim Spikers). Best defender: Manohar (Navelim Spikers). Best lifter: Milind Bondre (Navelim Spikers). Best smasher: Pappu (Kulmaya). Promising player: Akilesh (Kulmaya).
MLA Benjamin D’Silva was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Devendra Dessai, Leander Mascarenhas, Melwyn Sanches, Tyrone Fernandes, Cleofasio Dias and Cruz D’Silva.
Earlier, Levino Dias (football coach) Roberto Almeida (hockey), Feliciano Rodrigues Aquino Dias and Felix Fernandes (both volleyball) were felicitated by Benjamin D’Silva.
Aquino Dias, president of Sada Junction Boys, Murida welcomed. Aldrin Correia secretary, proposed the vote of thanks. Alton Fernandes compered.
In all, 10 teams participated.
