PANJIM: The Congress party Tuesday demanded that members of the BJP-led coalition should return all industrial plots allegedly acquired by blackmailing former Congress Goa Industrial Development Corporation chairman Chandrakant Kavlekar.
Party spokesman Sudip Tamhankar told a press conference Tuesday that the ruling coalition should clean its own stables before pointing fingers at the Congress.
“They (BJP) had taken plots by blackmailing former Congress Goa Industrial Development Corporation Babu Kavlekar even if it was keeping 150 applications pending. Is this ‘parivartan’ of Goa government?” Tamhankar asked.
“Make allegations of corruption against us, only after returning those plots back to the GIDC,” he demanded. One of those plots, Tamhankar claimed, was allotted to BJP leader Damu Naik on September 29, 2011.
Tamhankar who was supported by CLP spokesman Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco during the briefing, also challenged the government to prove 50 corruption charges made against the former Congress government.
“The government has not proven any of the corruption charges against us that were made prior to the Assembly election last March. These were lies (told) to the people to garner votes,” the Congressman alleged.
The Congress has also asked Environment Minister Alina Saldanha to keep a watch on the Environmental Assessment Report as she has to carry forward the environment protection legacy of her husband and late minister Matanhy Saldanha.
